  1. Hi Mr Gawn,

First of all I have to thank You very much for your tutorials. It is amazing how well you can explain it. I love 3ds but never spent much time with animation. Now I pretty much do only that.

Since I saw many times that You tell people they can ask anything and also that You may do a tutorial because of request I would like to ask You one thing. Well I would have thousands of questions but I don´t want to bother too much.

What tutorial would You suggest for me to better understand using bones and machine together with reactor? I remember You saying that those bullets could be rotating etc. before hitting a ground in "bullet shells tutorial" and a lot of problem with it. I would like to create a weapon that is shooting bullets and make the mechanism throw them out of a gun. It seems like a problem while using a reactor.
Thank You very much for any kind of response,

    Best regards,

    JM

  2. Hi,

After watching your Combot videos on YouTube and checking out your Croney Bot tutorials you have truly inspired me to try and create my own robot creations using your techniques. I'm curious to know how you rig the overall robot movement... are you actually skinning the robot as one editable poly to a biped or just linking each robot part (legs, arms, etc) to specific bones? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!! I've learned more from you than any 3ds max DVD tutorial I've purchased in the past!

  3. does anyone know how to setup either afterburn or fume for Vray? it throws in black smoke no matter what I do :D..

Anthony: He made me do my robot projet as well. I just wanted to do it with reactor, but I don´t know how to keyframe due reactor.. (in Mr Gawn´s Combot gatling test - splashing shells all over) that is so cool!!

  5. thnx guys fior yer comments and love. i do it all for the people who love to learn and love 3d.

    jan:
im glad you like my work and it feels good to inspire one to animate. as for ywer question i would say to check out my robo rig tutorial. that deal with robotic components and bone rigging them with the hi ik solvers. that should get you a good foot in the door. . .

    anthony:
hello tone, again im glad i can help to inspire. as fro yer robot question. most of my robots are done with linking. though some of the robots parts are done through skinning. for example the croney bots feet are skinned along with his torso, neck and head. the kiwi bot has his feet skinned also. . .

    jan:
what type of lighting did you use? also try rendering it out in scanline components and compositing in ae or nuke or combustion or w/e. . .

    inner peace:
well im glad i can hellp to influence over seas as well. a fun fact, i was going to go into industrial design. what an awesome feild. you use inventore or solidworks at all?

  6. I am intending to learn Inventor this year. Our school actually want us to learn NX.UG But I would rather choose the Autodesk Produck so it will have some similarity in the UI or something.
But I am afraid I am a little bit of stupid and I often fall asleep while I was learning...!

  7. Hey, nice tut's... Maybe you can shed some light on something for me. I'm doing a back hoe rig and have the main arm and fore arm rigged with no problem. It's got bones and an HI solver and it works great. What I'm having trouble with is the toggle linkage that connects the bucket cylinder to the bucket to dump the bucket. I do have all of the other cylinders properly linked and working great too. I'm not looking for a fancy solution (I'll rotate the bucket at it's pivot point), I just need a way to get the linkage driven by the bucket, which in turn drives the bucket cylinder. I'm on Max 2010 and am familiar with the basics of constraints, wires and linking. Your guidance is greatly appreciated. The animation will most likely run a grand total of 30 seconds as a video intro. Thanks....

  8. MrGawn: 1) I use Vray lights (sphere) and ofcourse Vray renderer. It seems like the smoke is preset for scanline and I don´t know how to set it up for my Vray so it isn´t that dark.
    2) I have seen Your robot tutorial(robo legs). It is great! that is actualy the one that made me really interested in riging and animation. The problem I face is how to rig your robot together with gravity. In Your video (ComBot Gatling) You have robot that is splashing shells all over that place. Did You use partical spawn or did You use reactor as in (falling shels tut) thank You very much.

  9. I just found your tut "The making of" Gatling Fire.. I can´t find it here on 3decay, do you have a list of all your tuts? I´m seeking for all of them, if you have list of download links from rapidshare, mediafire or else, let me know .. you are the best, thanks a lot! :) take care

  10. simon - im going to need more info on yer backhoe problem, maybe pics will help.

jan - use default max lights on yer ab smoke. (raytraced or ab shadows). make sure yer non vray light exclude all except yer ab smoke. should work. i have vray 2+ and its not giving me any trouble. as fro the gravity in my gatling test combot video i used pflow and space warps, not reactor.

  12. Mr. Gawn!!! You continue to rock!! Any chance you know how to get 3ds max particle flow and rayfire to work together? If so, do you mind making a tutorial? I'm trying to make bullets blow shit up upon impact but my rayfire fragmented objects blow up before particle flow even hits them... I have the new version of Rayfire (1.55) and the shooting feature is no longer in that version... Thanks again for your tutorials!! Its good to be able to learn from someone who knows what they are doing and speaks English. I can't understand half the tutorials out there b/c of people's accents (no offense to anyone reading this). Keep up the great work!! Also, any chance you know if afterburn works with mental ray? I can't seem to get an answer in the Afterburn forum...

  13. anthony - i already have a rayfire tutorial recorded that can help you. i just have to put it together in AE for presentation purposes before i upload and that takes time and motivation. . . in that tut i show you how to keep fractured elements intact until triggered by specific forces/geometry/etc. soon my friend.

the shooting params are there still in that version they moved things around and now the shooting has its own tab.

afterburn doesnt appear to work with mental ray but, does work with vray

  14. ah ok, sounds like that tutorial is awesome. I'll wait patiently for that tutorial for sure!!

Nah, the Rayfire dude pulled out the shooting tab in his new version... he said on his forum that he might release it separately at a later date... Not sure why he'd want to remove that feature but whatever.

I know you are crazy busy but if you need more ideas for tutorials, I'd be happy to throw a few out there. Thanks!!
